IPL stands for Intense Pulse Light, which helps improve the appearance of various skin conditions. It may also be used to remove unwanted hair. You can learn more about the applications for IPL by calling our office or scheduling an appointment with one of our doctors or aestheticians.
What is IPL and how does it work?
IPL is a noninvasive procedure that uses high-intensity pulses of light to target colored pigment in hair and in the skin.
It can be used to treat
- Vascular lesions
- Unwanted hair
Depending on the condition you want to be treated, you may require several IPL sessions before you see significant results. However, the benefit of IPL is that patients can immediately return to their daily routine after treatment.
Is IPL right for me?
IPL is not right for everyone. IPL is not recommended for clients with light, white, or grey hair wanting to remove unwanted hair—IPL is not able to recognize the hair and is therefore unable to remove it. IPL targets pigments and thus works best for patients with darker hair.
In addition, IPL is riskier for patients with darker skin tones and is more often recommended for patients with fair skin. During your consultation, we will examine your skin type and condition to determine if IPL is the right solution for your needs.
